Never say “Hard”, say “Great”
Sometimes you meet people explaining you how “hard” their job is.
It’s hard to find customers, it’s hard to find a dev team, it’s hard to do this and it’s hard to go that way.
Well, truly, since I started working for myself, there had been 2 hard weeks. On more than 3 years. Most of the time I don’t even feel like I’m working. I spend days doing what I’m passionate about with people I love and great music in my ears.
Okay somethings are tough but you need to learn how to turn those bad things into good ones. It will keep you smiling and motivated. Remember that joy is certainly the most viral thing. You might fail your super-alpha-prelaunch but you can’t fail making people feel good when you’re around the corner.
And this, my friends, is good for business. Oh yeah!
Here’s my list of things people may find hard that I find terribly great:
we are tech guys, I mean, a startup founded by tech guys.
Hard > We suck at marketing.
Great > We’re friendly and people like us because we never try to bullshit them.
we might have a kinda rock’n’roll look, big holes in our jeans (ok, mostly me on that one), beards and whatever we find cool.
Hard > Some people see us and think we are young assholes.
Great > We absolutely don’t need fu**ers who look down on others. The sooner we avoid them the better we get. It’s one of the reason we have amazing clients and partners: we understand each other.
we wanted to avoid angels and VCs on UpShot, not the way we wanted to go you know.
Hard > We sometimes have a limited budget or a lack of advice.
Great > We are free and we are going in the right direction. Super fast? Nop, who is? Fast? Well… at least not slowly at all, but at a human rate. And this is damn important to us as it makes us feel good everyday.
So, just think about it for a minute, find your “hard to become great” item of the day and post it here ;)
Have a nice day
